The the two artists were brought together by Amy Parry Projects to create two murals inside the Philips Arena/Hawks stadium. Both John and Stacie were familiar with each others work, but had never actually met until the first walk-through at the arena.
The artists decided that in order to prep for the project and get to know one another, they would work together on a smaller scale. This pre-collaboration has resulted in a variety of exploratory works that meld together Tindel's graphic imagery and southern vernacular, with Rose's gestural marks and abstract geometry.
The murals are part of an entrance section of the stadium (unofficially dubbed "the people's entrance") closest to the MARTA station. The concept behind the design revolves around the build up of expansive energy in anticipation of a spectacle. This, in combination with Atlanta attitude and southern vibes are what will welcome people as they enter the Philips Arena.

Stacie U. Rose Artist | SUR Studios
